a tribute to a good boy

I highly doubt anyone here knows of him, but this is Scotch. We got him when he was four months old.
He was a good dog, as they say. We could leave the box of Milkbones open and he would wait patiently to gently take one from your hand instead of going right for it. He was always underfoot, but he just wanted to be close to us, which I never minded.
It was hard to see him go from a little puppy I had to carry up the stairs to a grumpy old man. But he was my favourite dog of them all, and we called him "puppy" as a term of endearment just to see that tail wag despite the fact that he was 13.
He lived a good life, almost a full 14 years, which is really rather old for a golden retriever. He went to sleep today at around 5 PM, after being diagnosed with kidney failure. I'm gonna miss him, but it was time.
